Position Details: Shipping Utility Operator (Roll Handler)

Description:

The Shipping Operator (Roll Handler) plays a key role in ensuring warehouse operations run safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and customer requirements. Operators are responsible for handling and moving product rolls, loading and unloading trailers, and maintaining accurate inventory records. This position requires adherence to safety standards, teamwork, and attention to detail to support timely and accurate shipping operations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Strictly follow all safety rules, regulations, and plant procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, face shields, gloves, hearing protection, cut-resistant sleeves, and steel-toe shoes/boots.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards by keeping work areas clean, safe, and free of debris.
  • Operate powered industrial trucks (PITs), forklifts, and roll clamp equipment to move, load, and unload products safely and efficiently.
  • Accurately monitor and record inventory transactions in the warehouse database.
  • Load trailers, unload incoming trailers, and transfer materials as directed, ensuring customer requirements for product appearance, count, and accuracy are met.
  • Responding to customer service or warehouse leader concerns with appropriate corrective actions once trained.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, shift operators, supervisors, vendors, and customers in a professional manner.
  • Perform work tasks in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Identify and correct deviations in processing, equipment operation, or unsafe conditions, or promptly notify the appropriate personnel.
  • Work assigned shifts (8- or 12-hour), including overtime, weekends, and holidays, to meet operational needs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Shipping/Receiving Team Lead.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant industrial, manufacturing, or warehouse experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a high-performing team environment.
  • Data-entry skills, with the ability to update records and use databases.
  • Strong communication skills to ensure shipping accuracy and customer satisfaction.

Work Environment

This position involves working in a warehouse and production environment with the following conditions:

  • Exposure to hazardous machinery and electrical equipment.
  • Indoor environment with seasonal variations, including hot, humid, and cold temperatures.
  • Occasional outdoor work is required.

Physical Demands

  • Lifting from 10 lbs. to 50 lbs. as needed.
  • Operating forklifts and other powered industrial equipment.
  • Data entry as needed.
  • Standing, sitting, bending, crouching.
  • Reaching above/below shoulders.
  • Using foot controls and hand levers.
