Lead Operator – Boiler Specialist
Reports to: Process Area Leader
Location: ST Paper – Duluth, MN
Summary:
The Lead Operator’s primary responsibility is to achieve optimal performance from his/her equipment and coworkers. ST Paper is committed to building a high performance, team-based operation where all team members accountable for developing and adhering to procedures for safety, quality, environmental protection, customer satisfaction and productivity.
This position will be tasked with taking a leadership role in the operation, with particular attention to the safe and efficient operation of the natural gas fired boilers. The Lead Operator will gather and use data to improve productivity and reduce bottlenecks in the operating process. The Lead Operator will develop standard operating procedures (SOP) emergency operating procedures (EOP), operator basic care (OBC) routes and operational centerlines for the equipment.
Initially, this position will be responsible for safe and efficient boiler operation including training less experienced operators and will perform a variety of tasks related to asset care and installation of new assets. As the mill returns to operation, this position will become responsible for operation of the tissue machine or recycle fiber plant in addition to the boiler operation.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to:
Regularly: work a rotating shift schedule that involves night and weekend coverage. Work extra shifts when necessary to cover team member vacancies.
Occasionally: climb ladders, ascend/descend stairs or ramps while carrying tools. Bend forward at waist, crouch, push, pull twist, drive, handle, reach above the shoulders, reach below shoulders, squat and lift up to 50 pounds.
Frequently: Sit, stand, walk, speak and hear clearly, work with others, use keyboard/calculator and lift up to 30 pounds.
Specific vision: abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
