Position Details: Material Handler/Fiber Recycle Plant

Summary of Position
Fully trained operators are expected to work with their team to produce material within specifications in a safe, cost effective and environmentally appropriate process. Performs work in an industrial, production-oriented recycled paper plant using safe work practices, applying training and experience in a team-based environment. The job’s focus is on the movement of recycled paper from delivery through storage and transferring to the de-inking process.Duties & Responsibilities
- Observes and follows all the safety regulations and plant procedures including use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, face shields, gloves, hearing protection, cut resistant sleeves, steel toe shoes/boots, and other equipment as required to perform job duties safely
- Ensures good housekeeping by participating in plant initiatives on safety, operation, and maintenance
- Monitors the inventory of wastepaper and wetlap, making entries into the database as required
- Loads trailers, unloads trailers, unbundles paper, and transfers paper into the pulper in a safe and timely manner
- Understands the different grades of wastepaper and their impact on quality. Once trained, can respond to quality concerns expressed by the Lead Operator with appropriate corrective action
- Interacts with shift members, other shifts, supervision, vendors, and customers in a positive and professional manner. Looks for ways to improve operations and presents suggestions in a constructive manner.
- Performs occasional maintenance work
- Performs operations according to step-by-step standard operating procedures (SOP’s)
- Corrects any deviation from normal processing, equipment operation, and/or unsafe conditions if trained, or ensures appropriate employee corrects the situation
- Works 12 hour shifts and overtime as required
- May be assigned to assist or perform other tasks as identified by the Operator or Process Area Leader
- Willing to train and learn additional skills through the FRP Pay-for-Skills process
- Operates powered industrial trucks (PIT’s) as required
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Willingness to work in a high performing team environment
- Work rotating shifts (includes nights, weekends and holidays)
- Good written, mechanical, and communication skills
- Two years relevant industrial experience
